Delivering wildfire defensible spaces to volunteer residents primary homes within ʔaq’am and Mayook communities to improve possible outcomes for wildfire events.
Homes were assessed and defensive actions taken based on FireSmart principles. Leveraging many facets of Nupqu’s expertise including: FireSmart consulting, forestry consulting and sawyer crews, construction and equipment operation, and using local subcontractors.
Four homes had improved defensible spaces including vegetation management, non-combustible landscaping, and protection of combustible construction, cultural sites, and critical infrastructure elements. Five additional homes have been assessed with work commencing spring 2025.
