Wildfire is an increasing concern throughout BC as climate changes produces hotter, drier Spring and Summer weather. Nupqu’s professional foresters are developing treatment plans for Ktunaxa communities to mitigate the risk in forested areas where wildfire risk interfaces with population and commercial infrastructure. Similarly Nupqu’s forestry crews have completed work for municipalities in the region to implement wildfire risk reduction treatments through forest thinning.
Nupqu is developing a turnkey approach to support communities, providing professional prescription treatments and delivering the skilled labour and equipment to complete the treatment, along with helping communities to secure wildfire mitigation funding to do the work.
