Nupqu Limited Partnership is a growing business, proudly owned by member bands of the Ktunaxa Nation since 2009. With offices in Cranbrook, Castlegar and Fernie, BC, Nupqu conducts a wide variety of work: providing environmental, biological, archeological, forestry, contract administration and safety related consulting services to a variety of clients throughout the Ktunaxa Traditional Territory. We are currently seeking highly motivated, organized and responsible individuals to join our team in a dynamic and rewarding environment poised for significant growth.
These positions will consist of up to full time employment managed out of the Fernie, BC office (duration of contract will be negotiated depending on applicant’s availability & contract needs). The successful candidate should look to have relevant experience and qualifications which align with the roles and responsibilities outlined below.
Roles and Responsibilities
• Undertake surface and ground water sampling, waste/soil sampling, air monitoring;
• Coordinate waste/soil movement and treatment;
• Equipment calibration & maintenance (YSI, Flow Meter, Ground Water Equipment);
• Assist with fish salvage, bird/wildlife surveys, environmental inspections;
• Carry out time and equipment tracking requirements as directed;
• Experience working under Province of British Columbia environmental statutes, regulations and permits;
• Knowledge of industry best management practices, mitigation measures and compliance in relation to construction projects;
• Provide professional and technical support for preparation of Environmental Management Plans, Environmental Protection Plans, Technical Reports, Health and Safety Plans and data submissions to clients;
• Proven oral and written interpersonal communication skills;
• Self-motivated and safety-oriented team player.
Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants with:
· Post-secondary education in a related discipline such as: environmental science, biology, ecology, Forestry or Geography;
· Minimum 3 years experience in natural sciences with a strong affinity for field work;
· Ability to design, coordinate, implement and lead field programs with minimal oversight;
· Preference will be given to candidates who are registered or eligible for registration with a professional association or governing body such as: BC Institute of Agrology, College of Applied Biology, Engineers and Geoscientists BC, ECO Canada or equivalent;
· Knowledge of applicable regulatory, legal and other requirements within the discipline of responsibility assigned, or as they may apply to Elk Valley environmental conditions;
· Previous work experience in Environmental Monitoring, Environmental Field Assessments, Data Collection, Survey’s and Technical Report Writing;
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite® applications (i.e., Outlook, Word and Excel) including an understanding in mapping with ESRI;
· Proven safety track record & experience driving on resource roads;
· Must have a valid driver’s license including clean driving record with reliable transportation to and from our office.
